Telecommunications


Description: The principles and applications of telecommunications are emphasized. The technical and managerial aspects of telecommunications within a business are covered. International standardization efforts are introduced and the development of local and public networks are compared. LAN and PBX standards, implementations, and performance are compared. Other topics include comparison between voice and data traffic and between analog and digital transmission methods and integration of voice, data, facsimile, and video.

Academic prerequisites, requirements, or restrictions: Prerequisite: MIS 502

Other enrollment restrictions: None.

Technology requirements: A Pentium 100 MHz processor or better with at least 32 MB of RAM is highly recommended. Students also need access to the Internet for at least 5 hours per week.
