Literature Review Guidelines

....The fields of Expert Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Networks are changing rapidly. Therefore, it is recommended that each student will choose a research topic from the related areas to this course. Then you need to find 5 to 10 latest articles (within 3 years) to support your research. Each student is responsible for presenting their findings in the class and leading the discussion. Your report should be submitted by the following week. The report should be typed and about 10 to 15 pages long (double spaced, excluding appendix).

  1. Literature should be reviewed for the last three years only.

  2. The topic of the articles must be directly related to the content of this course.

  3. Do not select news items; select theoretical or applied papers which are at least three journal pages long.

  4. The content of the article should be such that it contributes to this class (e.g. new theory, interesting application, and applications with important practical lessons).

  5. The topic must be managerially oriented.

  6. Your report may include:
    1. Title Page: A proper title representing your research.
    2. Abstract (about 1/3 of your report): What the article is about.
    3. Justification (about 1/3 of your report): Why you have selected these articles?
    4. Findings and Critique (about 1/3 of your report). Your opinion on the articles from a managers' or a business students' viewpoint.
    5. Conclusion
    6. Attach a photocopy of the articles.

Notes

  1. Since the search deals with the most recent periodicals, you would be better off checking the "current periodicals" shelves in the library rather than do a computerized search.

  2. You may look at the most recent issue of Business Periodical Index and Computer Literature Index. They are located in the reference area in the library.

  3. If a computerized search is done, make sure to get the abstract. Names may be very misleading.
